Denver, CO Mountain Wedding Photographers: To See (Or Not To See)...That Is The Question!

To see (or not to see)...that is the question!  My beautiful model is Ms. Bailey Kyler wearing her Dad's military hat. :)

One of the most frequent questions that we get asked as wedding photographers is "should we see each other before the wedding or wait until I (the bride) walks down the aisle?"  Our first response is always that it is YOUR day and if you have a desire one way or the other, you should go for it...period.  Everyone, including your photographers, will respect that decision and plan accordingly.

If the couple continues to ask questions about our opinion on the subject, we will then tell them why we love a First Look so very much.  It's intimate, it's beautiful, it's a chance for the bride and groom to spend some alone time before their wedding and have the opportunity to actually talk to one another.  An added benefit of the First Look is that you can then get all of your family and bridal party photos done before the ceremony.  Then, once the ceremony is over, you get extra time for bride and groom portraits and then off to the reception you go to celebrate the rest of the night!!

To help me explain this, I've pulled photos from some of our very favorite First Look moments for you to see...

Without a doubt, Nick had one of the most amazing groom responses we've ever seen. It makes me tear up every time I look at these images.  He is so proud of his bride and how incredibly gorgeous Susan is.  There is no girl alive that doesn't want her man to look at her like this.  Having this private First Look not only gave Nick a chance to see his bride, but also gave him a chance to tell her what he was thinking.  It was beautiful.

Erika and Jamie are another amazing couple with a beautiful First Look story.  I mean, just look at Jamie's smile...he's SO happy!  As he should be with a gorgeous bride like Erika.  It was so amazing to watch them express their love, but they also laughed a lot and had a really great time together, which is such a true reflection of their relationship and personalities.

Ohhh, Nikki and Allan.  Will and I have been friends with them and Nikki's family for a very long time, so getting to capture this moment for the two of them was very special to us.  I love everything about their First Look moment.  (You'll also notice in all of these First Looks, how amazing it is to have two photographers so you can capture both his and her reactions!)

This next series of two black and white photos are two of my most favorite images ever...I love how they are checking each other out.  Awesome.  Just awesome.

Precious, precious Amanda and Ethan.  I have to tell you, it's a miracle my photos were in focus for these because of the tears in my eyes during their entire First Look.  Amanda and Ethan did something so special and unique that we had never seen before...they wrote and then read private vows to each other during their First Look.  It was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most intimate and special First Look moment we've ever seen.  I can say with a lot of certainty that this was a moment neither of them will ever forget.

(Sigh.)  Just writing this post and pulling these photos makes me want to marry Will all over again.  I love beautiful love.

So I'm curious...what do you think?  Do you like the idea of doing a First Look?  There is no wrong answer.  Both ways are beautiful and amazing!
