Vacation Summary

Okay, okay, okay!! For all of you who were expecting me to post blogs while on vacation, I apologize for my absence. I had every intention of posting as we went, but between a packed schedule and the internet fees each hotel charged, I decided just to wait until we got home. So...now you get the world's longest blog with pictures from each stop of our adventure... you may want to grab a cup of coffee before you start... :-)

Copenhagen, Denmark
We had a 6 hour layover in Copenhagen, so we took the metro from the airport to downtown and spent a few hours seeing the city.

It was early in the morning when we arrived, so I asked a gentleman sweeping outside his shop where to get a good cup of coffee. This is where he sent us....

I think maybe there was something lost in translation there!!! :-) We eventually did find a bakery with danishes (what else???) and espresso. I probably don't even need to say it, but it was the best danish I've ever had!

Then we did a boat tour of the entire Copenhagen harbor area. It was beautiful and we got to see sights like this...

Barcelona, Spain
By the time we arrived in Barcelona, we had been awake for about 36 hours. That evening was one of the most enjoyable nights of our trip. We ate tapas and drank sangria at a wonderful outdoor restaurant in Barcelona.

The next day, we did the "hop on, hop off" bus tour of Barcelona since we only had the one full day to see the city. It was definitely the way to see a lot in a small amount of time. At one of the stops, they had a cable car that took you from the top of the mountain all the way across the city and down to the Mediterranean Sea. Both of these next two pictures were taken from up in the cable car...

I am purposely only showing you the beach from this distance. Must I remind you that it's Europe and I'd like to keep this blog G-rated??? :-)

At the end of our bus tour in front of a fountain in the center of downtown Barcelona.

Valencia, Spain
After about a 4 hour drive from Barcelona, we spent the remaining part of the day in Valencia. The city is full of medieval skinny streets, outdoor vendors and bull fighting arenas. Scott and Joe went to a bull fight that evening, but I think Will was smart to save our vacation by not having a crying wife after seeing such an event. (I'm an animal lover, don't think I could have handled that one.) Instead, we had a fantastic dinner on this street...

...and then we walked to the newer part of the city to see it at night. Gorgeous.

Seville, Spain
The following day, we drove another 6 hours to Seville. What a beautiful city!!!

Seville is the home of the flamenco dance, so we found a great place to see a show that evening. The flamenco is such an intense dance. I have no idea what the singers were singing about (in Spanish), but they made you feel it in your soul.

On our way back to the hotel that night, we walked across this river -- this is the river where Christopher Columbus set sail from as he began his journey and eventually discovered America.

Aveiro, Portugal
Our friends, J and D got married in Portugal and their wedding was the inspiration for our entire trip. It was such a phenomenal event with a beautiful ceremony followed by an outdoor reception at a vineyard. Here are some of my favorite photos from the wedding...

This little girl was too adorable. She was pretending to take a shower and wash her hair on the dance floor.

D and her daddy. Too sweet.

Me and my honey.

Porto, Portugal
The home of Port. We walked a good bit of this city and visited one of the factories where port is made.

...and maybe we found a phone booth to sneak in a kiss. :-)

Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon was a spectacular city. We ate at some great restaurants, saw the sights, and ...

... did the waltz. Doesn't everyone do that here??? ;-)

Sintra, Portugal
Just a short train ride from Lisbon, we spent our last day touring the amazing sights of Sintra. I honestly think this was one of my very favorite places. First we went to an old Moorish castle and walked the entire place from end to end. You can only imagine the views we had from up here...
My hubby the explorer...

From the castle, you can see a palace in the background...

...this is the palace that Portugese royalty used to vacation to. We toured the palace which is still 100% intact and is full of furniture, etc. Gorgeous.

We also walked through the very quaint town of Sintra, did some shopping and found some beautiful gardens...

Home
And I'm sure you're wondering if the girls were excited to see us when we got home. Well, considering that they buried themselves in our dirty clothes as we unpacked our suitcases, I'd say they were pretty happy to have us home!!! :-)
